A Myanmar worker who died in the Auditor’s Office building collapse near Chatuchak Market in Bangkok on March 28 due to an earthquake has been cremated, according to the WAG Myanmar organization.
The body of the deceased Myanmar worker, Maung Naing Htet Linn, was cremated on April 24 at WAT SMAN NARI temple in Chatuchak, WAG Myanmar coordinator Ko Mone Taing told Migrant Times.
He added that WAG Myanmar has now cremated a total of five Myanmar workers as of April 24.
Rescue teams reported that 103 people, including Myanmar workers, went missing after the Auditor’s Office building collapsed due to the earthquake on March 28.
According to the Thai Fire and Rescue Department’s April 24 report, out of the 103 people reported missing in the building collapse, the bodies of 56 deceased individuals have been recovered.
The rescue team stated that approximately 38 people may still be missing within the collapsed building zones, while 9 people have been sent to hospitals.
Labor rights advocates told Migrant Times that among the more than 50 recovered bodies, 34 were Myanmar workers.
According to Myanmar labor rights advocates, families of those killed in the building collapse will receive compensation of 100,000 baht from the Bangkok District Office and up to 1 million baht from the Phakansakhon Social Security Office if their DNA matches the deceased.
A WAG Myanmar member told Migrant Times that the families of deceased Myanmar workers are facing some documentation difficulties in receiving compensation.
