Myanmar Worker Arrested in Phuket for Stealing 1.1 Million Baht from Employer

A 23-year-old Myanmar worker, identified as Nyi Bo Thet, was arrested in Phuket’s Cherng Talay sub-district for allegedly stealing 1.1 million baht from his employer, according to the Phuket Police.

The arrest took place during a seven-day crime suppression operation conducted from May 1 to May 7, 2025, in Cherng Talay, Phuket.

Nyi Bo Thet was apprehended in front of Building 92 of the Arun housing project in the same sub-district, as reported by Thai media outlets.

Police seized seven pieces of evidence from Nyi Bo Thet, including a motorcycle, clothing worn during the crime, a black shoulder bag, a cap, and 1,980 baht in cash. Additionally, authorities recovered 1,179,890 baht and USD 100 in stolen funds.

The theft occurred at a residence in Bang Tao, where CCTV footage captured the suspect’s face, enabling police to conduct an investigation. By tracing the suspect’s escape route, authorities tracked down and arrested Nyi Bo Set.

According to police, Nyi Bo Thet faces multiple charges, including nighttime burglary, using a vehicle to facilitate a crime, and possession of stolen property. Thai media also reported that he was charged with illegal online gambling.

Furthermore, police noted that the visa in Nyi Bo Set’s passport expired on March 4, 2024. While the identity of Nyi Bo Thet’s employer was not disclosed, initial reports indicate that the employer is a Thai national.

Legal proceedings against Nyi Bo Thet are underway, as confirmed by the Cherng Talay Police Station in Phuket.
